Addictions make life enjoyable in the short term, but unhappy and
depressing in the long term. Whether the addiction is with a hard drug or
something like
a type of food, the psychological process is the same. A tolerance is built
up and then more of the substance is needed to keep you at the same level
of psychological happiness. With this comes feelings of guilt and low self-esteem.
Despite the realisation that in fact the substance is causing more unhappiness
than happiness, the addiction has taken hold.
Counselling and hypnotherapy can
help you remove these addictions from your life, and as you start to experience
more freedom you will also have access
to the inner resources necessary to make healthier choices for themselves.
David has worked with a variety of clients who had addictions, and has over
time built up an holistic and effective approach to this very debilitating
and life destroying problem. In some cases David may suggest the use of Traditional
Chinese Medicine to complement his hypnotherapy work.
The term anger management commonly refers to a system of
therapeutic techniques and exercises by which someone with excessive or uncontrollable
anger
can control or reduce the triggers, degrees, and effects of an angered
emotional
state. This conditioning can cause inappropriate expressions of
anger such as uncontrolled violent outbursts, misdirected anger or repressing
all
feelings of anger when it would be an appropriate response to the situation.
Hypnotherapy
is a powerful and effective tool in anger management allowing you to
keep control of yourself whilst finding more appropriate and constructive
ways of dealing with a situation. Ultimately you will become more assertive,
with increased confidence and self-esteem.
David has extensive experience in
managing anger using a unique combination of talking therapies and
body work. He has successfully worked with individuals
and groups, including running a meditation group for the inmates of Pentonville
Prison.
No matter how confident you feel about your abilities
Driving Test Nerves can cause even the most competent driver to fail their
test.
Symptoms
you may feel
before or during your test include some or all of the following:
Sweating Palms
Butterflies in the stomach
Nausea
Dry mouth
Feelings of Panic
Hypnotherapy is excellent in helping you with your Driving
Test Nerves. Passing your test is as much about being calm, relaxed
and focused as it is about your
ability to drive. Hypnotherapy helps you prepare mentally for your
test. You also learn how to relax immediately in any situation
(a great skill
not just
for your Driving Test Nerves but also for any stressful situation
in your life, one of the great secondary benefits of Hypnotherapy).
In
addition during Hypnotherapy
you will use powerful visualisation techniques to rehearse and
practise the test in your mind, re-programming your mind for confidence
and
success! With
these newly restored feelings of confidence you will be in full
control of your Driving Test Nerves and looking forward to taking
your test
in a calm
and relaxed manner, allowing you to become a safe and competent
driver.
David
has helped many people to overcome a variety of exam nerves. Whether
it is for driving, sports competition or job interview, David has
a solution to suit you. Alongside the inner work of NLP and Hypnotherapy
David will
teach you how to breathe in a controlled and relaxed manner that
will
make
a vast
difference to you. Deep relaxation techniques allow you to develop
feelings of self-belief and confidence and this alone goes a long
way to helping
control
your Driving Test Nerves.
Non-ulcer dyspepsia is sometimes called
functional dyspepsia. It means that no known cause can be found for the symptoms.
The inside
of your
gut looks
normal (if you have an endoscopy). About 6 in 10 people who have
recurring bouts of dyspepsia have non-ulcer dyspepsia. About
1 in 3 people with
non-ulcer dyspepsia also have 'irritable bowel syndrome' and
have additional symptoms
of lower abdominal pains, erratic bowel movements, etc. In some
cases anxiety, depression, or stress can make symptoms worse.
The first formal research study
on the efficacy of hypnotherapy for functional dyspepsia was
a randomised controlled trial, performed by Dr Calvert and his
team in Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, England, in 2002. The
results showed that symptom scores improved significantly more
in both the
short-term and
the long-term for the patients in the Hypnotherapy group compared
to those in the supportive therapy or medical treatment groups.
The Quality
of Life
scores also improved more significantly in the short-term for
the
patients in the hypnotherapy group compared to those in the supportive
therapy
or medical treatment groups. In the long-term, the Quality of
Life scores improved significantly
more for the patients in the Hypnotherapy and supportive therapy
groups compared to those in the medical treatment group. In addition
to this,
no patients
in the Hypnotherapy group commenced medication during the follow-up
compared to
82% of patients in the supportive therapy group and 90% of patients
in the medical treatment group, and the patients in the Hypnotherapy
group
made
significantly fewer visits to their general practitioner or gastroenterologist
compared to
those in the supportive therapy or medical treatment groups.
David’s holistic
approach to treatment ensures that all aspects of your condition;
emotional, physiological and psychological are fully addressed.
It’s not just the obvious
we can be afraid of. Fears, phobias, anxiety and panic attacks all
stem from a part of the brain called
the amygdala, which
is often called the ‘terror centre of the brain’.
When a real, or perceived, danger is recognised by the brain,
a fight or flight response
is set off to help us overcome that danger. But, for some people,
instead of this just becoming a thing of the past their mind
creates a template of that
event so that anything in the future resembling that first situation
will unconsciously reactivate the same feelings they had before.
They have no control over this
and their feelings may well appear completely irrational. The
unconscious mind can react like this to things that aren’t
really a danger, which is why the list of fears and phobias is
so incredibly long!
We can actually have a
phobia or fear of anything. The fear is real even if the danger
is not. Since this has nothing to do with rationality the source
of
the problem is not needed
to be found (in some cases even with years of psychoanalysis
people have not found the source of their troubles). This is
why Hypnotherapy
and NLP work
so well. By changing the template and giving you a new frame
of reference your fear or phobia can be permanently removed in
a very short space
of time.
The
therapy used will cover one or more approaches. The NLP ‘fast phobia
cure’ is one of the most powerful ways to remove a phobia, and in some
cases can even be removed in just one session. In more complex cases a mixture
of NLP and Hypnotherapy may be used. There really is no need to carry these
feelings with you, and the freedom you feel once the phobia/fear/anxieties
have been removed is exhilarating. It’s important to realise that you
don’t have to put up with a fear or a phobia just because that’s
the way ‘you’ve always been’.
With David’s help your
phobia or fear can be removed now! Hypnotherapy and NLP are extremely
successful for helping people overcome fears and phobias,
whatever they are, helping you to move on with your life and
enjoy new experiences that you may have avoided in the past.
Hypnotherapy can really help the insomniac as it allows you to
quiet your mind and relax your body. While insomnia can be a
sign of a
physical disorder for most people it is an effect of bad habits,
stress, tension
and anxiety,
all of which can be helped with Hypnotherapy.
Insomnia can limit the energy
you have to spend with friends or family. Long-term
insomnia can cause you to feel depressed or irritable; have trouble
paying attention, learning, remembering; and not do your best at
work. All of this
can be changed for the better allowing you to live a fuller and happier
life.
David’s
holistic approach incorporating Hypnotherapy and special Chinese
exercises will bring about excellent results for you.
Research consistently shows hypnosis to have
a substantial therapeutic impact on IBS, even for patients unresponsive to
standard medical
interventions.
Psychological
symptoms and life functioning improve after treatment, and
therapeutic gains are well maintained for most patients for
years after the
end of treatment.
David’s
knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine along with years
of specialised bodywork, particularly using Tai Chi and Chi Kung,
is well suited
to ensure the full benefits of hypnotherapy are to be gained.
Hypnotherapy is now a well-established and efficacious treatment
for pain relief, free of side effects, risks of adverse reactions,
and the ongoing expense
associated with long term medication. People have even undergone
surgical procedures and substantive dental work without anaesthetic
using only
hypnotherapy.
Pain
is a distraction at best, and extremely tiring and debilitating
at worst. To be free of pain or at least be able to control
it will
invigorate and liberate
you so that you can once again get on with your life.
David will only work with
clients who have first had their pain investigated by a medical
practitioner such as their GP. The reason for this is that
to remove pain before knowing if there is an underlying organic
cause is potentially dangerous and even life threatening. David’s
responsible approach ensures that you will get the very best
attention and treatment.
One of the most common fears in the world is fear of speaking
in public or in social settings. This is a major source of
stress for people
at work or
family gatherings. Most people would like to avoid this problem
entirely, but find that this is extremely hard to do. Whether
working
alone
or with large
numbers of people, eventually the need to speak at some level
in public is bound to arise. The fear of Public Speaking can
manifest
in many
forms: panic
attack; performance anxiety; stage fright; blushing; fear of
presenting; relationship difficulties; and so on.
Overcoming this fear opens the door to a world of opportunity
and freedom in every area of your life.
David has coached and helped people to overcome
this fear including taking a man who couldn’t even enter
a room if there were already one or two people inside (because
he would
have to introduce himself)
to being able to
address conferences with several hundred people in attendance.
Low self-esteem or low self-worth can be one of the most
inhibiting things a person has to put up with in their life. It sub-consciously
drives us to
be what we are, and can cause us to be shy or to dislike
meeting people or going to places we are unsure off. It can affect
the way we feel
about ourselves
and stop us achieving in both our relationships and careers.
It can affect our social and financial standing, and is demoralising
and
can easily
link to depression.
It’s a wonderful feeling when your self-esteem levels start to rise.
It’s then a steady enjoyable experience as they grow and grow.
You will be able to make the most of new opportunities that come
your way, and life
will feel better each and every day.
David will treat low self-esteem in a variety
of ways, using hypnotherapy, NLP, CBT and counselling, depending
on your personal make-up.
Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking,
according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways
of breaking
the habit.
You
will reduce your risk of developing illness, disability or
death caused by cancer, heart or lung disease; improve your
breathing
and general
fitness; save money - as much as several hundred pounds a
month, if you're a heavy
smoker.
Where
necessary David can enhance this even further with ear acupuncture
which itself is a very powerful tool for smoking cessation.
Increasingly, hypnosis is being used by many people to
improve their performance in sports. Whether you are someone who
uses the gym occasionally,
or you’re
a top professional athlete there is always room for improvement.
Golf is probably the most popular sport which people use
applied hypnosis techniques to help
with, but it can also be used with any individual or team
sport, or activity, including: show jumping; rugby; football;
rowing; and
fencing.
Increased motivation, self belief, mental focus, and a
winning attitude are just a few of the benefits to be had.
David has spent more than 30 years working
with and coaching people in a variety of sports, and in
particular Tai Chi Chuan.
Whenever we are faced with a potentially dangerous situation
our body gets ready to either fight or run away. It does
this by pumping
adrenaline
through
our body. Now whilst this was vital when we used to live
in caves and there were sabre toothed tigers wandering
around, we have
much less
need for
this in the modern world. Although we occasionally are
faced with serious and
even life threatening situations, these are very rare nowadays.
However, as we grow
up our minds and bodies learn to interpret all kinds of
things as life threatening so that we are still responding
as if
there’s
a wild animal waiting outside the cave. This can range
from an unexpectedly large gas bill coming through
the letter box to a police siren whizzing past our window.
What this means is that we are continuously overreacting
and getting far too
much adrenaline
pumping through our system on a daily basis without enough
time for this to naturally be absorbed back into the body.
Basically, this
means we are being
wound up all day, every day.
Stress causes many adverse emotional, physiological and
psychology effects and is a build up of either internal
or external
mental pressure. It
can cause all sorts of problems including: headaches; irritability;
anger; upset stomachs;
insomnia; loss of confidence and self esteem; as well as
tiredness and fatigue. Stress related illnesses are the
biggest cause
of lost work
days
in this
country, and someone who is suffering from high levels
of stress is putting their health
and even their life at risk. All of this can be put behind
you so that the good things in life are yours for the taking.
Stress is a very personal thing and needs a carefully tailored
treatment plan to be truly effective. The reason for this
is that it is impossible
to eliminate
all stress from your life. Also, being able to positively
respond to certain types of stress is one of the keys to
success. David’s
holistic approach to mind, body and spirit, developed through
years of training in Tai Chi combined
with hypnotherapy and NLP techniques will enable you to
face the world in a useful and competent way. You will
learn to be relaxed
and fully in control
of your natural stress levels.
Nail biting is one of the most common 'bad
habits', and can be caused by nervousness, anxiety, worry,
etc. The best way to remove any unwanted habit is to replace
it with a more useful one whilst at the same time dealing
with the underlying anxiety, etc. With hypnosis this is
done on
an
unconscious level so that
there is no need for you to use will power, or to make
unreasonable life changes.
It takes enormous amounts of time, energy, and in some
cases, money to maintain a habit. The increased freedom,
health,
wealth and
happiness that are gained
from successfully overcoming an unwanted habit are immeasurable.
David’s
training backed up by his personal outlook on life which
is that we are all trying to do our best in this world, serve him
well in
dealing
with unwanted habits and behaviours. David starts out with
accepting you as you are and then supporting you to identify and
make the changes
that you want
to progress in life.
Losing weight is all about burning more calories than you
consume, so exercise may be required as well as changes
to your eating
habits. Hypnotherapy helps
you with both of these aspects. It works with your behaviours,
beliefs, values, motivation and habits, to support you
in eating healthily
and exercising more without resorting to will power. You
only need willpower
when you
are
trying
to achieve something that you don’t want to do. Hypnotherapy
supports you in making inner changes so that you will want
to lose weight both with
your conscious mind and your unconscious mind. When these
two aspects of your mind are in harmony then there is no
need to use willpower.
For weight loss
Hypnotherapy must not be seen as a quick fix. It takes
time to healthily reduce your body fat normally at a rate
of one
and
two pounds
per week. This is a realistic target which would add up
to a weight loss of more than three stone in a year and
most
importantly be
a permanent loss. No
more yo-yo dieting.
Stay motivated to exercise
Build self esteem to reduce the causes of over eating
Help you to eat more healthily and resist certain foods
You can still enjoy
your favourite foods but in smaller quantities and
you can start to genuinely enjoy taking more exercise.
As with all his work David tailors his approach
to your specific needs. A programme with realistic
and achievable targets will be agreed upon and David
will support you in making this happen. Additionally,
through his Tai Chi work David has developed extensive
knowledge
of exercises for all
levels
of physical
ability. Even if you have never exercised before, or
feel completely unable to, David will work with you
to
successfully
overcome
this.
